Winterfest '04

2/19/5 Jeff Hnatio, Keithel, Karen Zimmerman

Today’s fest was scheduled to test out my new tractor accessory, a giant sardine can on skis. The sardine can came from Blue Galleon’s trade show kit and measures four feet wide and six feet long. I made a small chassis from 2x4s to mount a pair of old heavy downhill skis that I got from Tim Unkert. The fest began with a large cloud of burnt oil as the motor warmed up. There was just enough snow to drag the sardine can around the yard. We started with some yard laps with Keithel in the can. He said it was comfortable with the seat cushions that usually go in the dump body. Steering the can was another issue though. I had to take the turns wide to get the can through the corners. And sometimes the skis would send the can in a different direction than the tractor. This was apparent in the vegetable garden where it kept hitting a stack of bricks. Jeff showed up a bit late and "relieved Keithel’s duties in the can". He liked it too. The sardine can definitely has sledding potential but there wasn’t enough snow today to test that.

3/5/5 Brian Jones

Brian drove down from Burlington VT in a snowstorm today. Even with no one else around we decided to start up the tractor. With the snow too deep in the woods and the ice too thin on the swamp we went on the road. Doughnuts were a priority today as we ventured to Hudson. Brian seemed to enjoy assisting the tractor during the doughnuts by pushing the dump body sideways. The snow was blowing so hard that it was difficult to see at times. Especially during a neutral drop just after the town line. We really couldn’t see anything as we gained speed but I managed to keep it on the road. After our 5k loop was complete we rammed the street sign a few times to conclude the fest.
