Octoberfest '98

Today's fest began with the ascent of the steep hill and some baja into an area that Matt Vitale questioned as un-fested. After some forestry it appeared that we had been there before so we turned back after an unsuccessful attempt to fit between two stone walls. At this point Jeff caught up with us as we began descending to the trail. Speed increased and the right rear wheel bounced off a rock lifting it airborne and almost rolling the tractor. Exciting, but not disastrous, just as I had promised after rolling the tractor during festmas '94. Late arrivals Ethan and Chanel joined us at the trail and we set off for the washing machine monument. Apparently it had survived the scouts from a nearby camp over the summer who may have even added some new rocks. The return trip featured the removal of some dead trees and foliage. It was highlighted by the descent on the main trail where the tractor bounced excessively until it stopped. We returned to the yard, loaded a big pumpkin into the dump body, and bajaed to the steep highway embankment. The pumpkin was rolled down the hill a few times until it fell apart. Then we descended the embankment on the tractor. We returned to the woods and drove the front wheels onto a boulder. After a pause in the action we descended the embankment a second time to conclude the first Octoberfest in four years.
