Novemberfest '05

11/25/5 Brian Jones, Ed Kross, Chris Li. Iwak, Adam Stark

I exhibited total incompetence at today's fest by trying to start the motor for 40 minutes with an empty gas tank. Once the problem was remedied and the smoke had cleared we promptly hooked up the sardine can and went for some yard laps on three inches of snow. Chris rode first before having to depart early while Ian, Brian, and Adam enjoyed some quality time in and on the can after Chris had his fill. The can made occasional contact with trees and stuff, usually due to the chain unhooking. The turn between the barn and pond was especially fun. After one unhooking Adam hadn't sat himself on the can securely and was viciously thrown to the ground on his back when the tractor jolted forward. It was quite amusing. Ed Kross didn't ride in the can claiming it was too dangerous even though he has done things a lot more dangerous on a bicycle. At this point my dad recruited us to move an old pool table that had been leaned up in the garage for as long as I can remember. A few ideas on how to go about it safely were debated (it weighs 1,700 lbs) before we decided brace the comealong in the garage ceiling and lift it away from the wall. It took a while but we eventually played one game on the heavily damaged table. One side is missing so we only had 4 pockets and used some boards to keep the balls on the table. Extremely short cues (20 inches) were used to accomodate its close proximity to the wall. After that we restarted the tractor and experienced a large cloud of smoke. We set off for TV cliff with a large monitor and a fax machine. Upon reaching the woods it became obvious that the belts needed to be tightened so there was a short delay at the barn. Back in the woods we experienced some slowness due to the snow accumulation and worn belts. But despite the conditions and Brian's lousy driving, we made it to TV cliff. Ian tossed the (heavy) monitor but it didn't break and Adam threw the fax machine. I went to retrieve the monitor and struggled to lug it back up the hill with no tread on my boots and no assistance from the others. They watched and threw snowballs at me as I slipped and dropped the monitor many times. The screen smashed on the second toss and we returned to the tractor. After difficulty crossing uphill over the stone wall we jetted to the washer/drier/(newly added) treadmill monument. On the way we ran over some dead trees but the snow and worn belts prevented the tractor from releasing its wrath upon the large vegetation. Monument damage was observed but not repaired before we ascended back to the turnaround. From there we enjoyed the bumpy descent and Brian was ejected near the bottom. Then we rolled strong thru the woods, over the stonewall, Ian rode the bull section, and we slid down the embankment at the roadside. We concluded the fest by "reorienting" a new stop sign with the front bumper.
