Novemberfest '04

11/26/04 Medora Hackler, Andy Jones, Brian Jones, Scott Jones, Sharon Jones, Ed Kross, Bridget Quinn, Karen Zimmerman

Ed was the first arrival today and after gassing up Medora joined us for a trip into the woods. Right away I knew the VBelts were loose so after removing some trees and bottoming out the front axle, we returned to the barn to lower the transmission. Then we ascended to the summit of Mt Tractor where we removed a stubborn pine tree with the aid of the front bumper. Along the traditional descending route we found an abandoned winter hat before crossing the stonewall. Then we found Brian, Bridget, and Andy while ascending the main trail went baja in some think small pine trees for a while. Karen, then Scott and Sharon from New Jersey arrived, and we ventured in the direction of the washer and drier monument. Along the way we cleared out many dead trees to everyone's enjoyment. The fine line between safely knocking down a tree and having the top come crashing down upon us was delicately approached several times but never crossed. At the monument we found extensive damage to the once impressive structure. Almost all the rocks had fallen off the drier. We added some new features to the treadmill and continued on our way. Restructuring the drier will have to wait for another day, specifically motivation to lift and place the heavy (200+lb?) rocks. The return trip featured the pounding descent on the main trail. First time Tractorfest participant Sharon sat shotgun as we bounced our way down the hill; until she was ejected during the final bumpy section which has about a 40% ejection rate. After fueling up on bread and cheese and other food that Karen brought we set up a game of all-terrain croquet. There were many comical moments as well as some challenging shots like a wicket on the side of a tree, another halfway up a stonewall, and our traditional "water wicket" positioned at the edge of the pond. Ed brought a new dimension to the game by acting as a referee. The game ended in the dark and we concluded the fest with some hot chocolate.
